Task 1 (Noel Clarke Interview)

Here is an interview with Noel Clarke which I found on youtube, it was an interview when he was invited onto GMTV. He talks about how kidulthood was basically based on his life growing up in london, so this pulls in a greater audience I think.

The link above is where I got some of my information from for my Richard Branson research. It has some quotes from him which I will use in my document and it also has the personal background part to this task.

He is a very rich and famous British Entrepreneur who was founder of virgin records and many more virgin businesses. He has bought to islands with his own money and is still managing to make money, and not losing out in any way.

Stuff to go in folder (Noel Clarke)

Task 1

Noel Clarke:
Noel Anthony Clarke (born 6 December 1975) is an English actor, director and screenwriter from London. Noel is an actor/writer/director and he has quite recently became a successful person. He has acted in and directed such films as kidulthood, Adulthood, 4.3.2.1 and more. He was first introduced to our screens in 1999 where he played a role in Native as a character named Victor. He is best known for playing Mickey Smith in Doctor Who, but has now become even bigger through directing, writing and acting in his own films such as the ones I listed before which were Kidulthood, Adulthood and 4,3,2,1. He studied media at the university of North London. This makes me think that I can become as successful as him when I do film and television at university.

3x Successful People

The three people which I have chosen to write and find out about are Noel Clarke, Michael Jackson and Richard Branson.

Noel Clarke:
I have created a twitter account and I have contacted Noel Clarke and I have asked him a question in two tweets and I have explained what we are doing. I am still waiting for an answer from him, but I am not to sure if I will get one back from him. I am just hoping. The reason for me wanting to have Noel Clarke as one of the people I am going to research about is because he is my favourite director and he has inspired me to continue with my path of becoming a director.

Michael Jackson:
I chose Michael Jackson as one of the people I am going to research about because he is one of the most talented and successful people ever. When he was younger him and his family had nothing and up to his death he was a very successful and rich man. I have got a biography book of him which will help me to find out the attitudes and beliefs of him.
Richard Branson:
I think that Richard Branson is a very inspirational person and I am most definitely inspired by him. He is someone that everytime I see an interview from him, it makes me want to achieve the things which he has achieved and makes me want to work harder in what I do. I will look up on the internet for interviews and see if there is anyway I can contact him.

Evaluation

1. How has your idea developed?
My idea has developed from many different ideas and I finally came down to just one idea which I was happy with. It has developed from me just thinking up the idea and making each of the designs, to it actually being printed off and ready to go up in the shop window.

2. How have your ideas developed?
My ideas have developed because I have now extended onto my research for each idea in my sketchbook and on my blog.

3. What feedback have you received?

4. How do you feel about the final piece?

Health, Safety and Copyright

There wasn't many of any health and safety issues in this project which I couldn't get round. One health and safety issue which came across was sitting in front of a computer screen for ages, but I took breaks in between so this wasn't an issue for me. Another health and safety issue could be that people may get offended by the final piece, but this isn't an issue for me because I haven't got anything in my design which people can take any offence to. Another issue would be posture. As I am sitting on a computer my posture may not be straight, but I make sure that I straighten up and stretch every now and then.

I haven't got any copyright in my work because I made sure that the images I used which were not mine were labelled for reuse, so this made it possible for me to use the images which I did in my final product.

My designs for the final piece

I have now done the designs for my final piece and I think that they look pretty good. The next thing which I am going to do is mount them on to a board and probably put them to an a1 or a2 size.

Here are my designs:

Personal Bio

After this course I plan to go to university to study film and television or media studies. I believe this will help me to achieve in what I desire to do in the future which is a film maker/director. I think that this course has helped me to get much better at media and editing to create films/music videos. I think that after this course and after university I will become successful if I follow the correct path.

Title: Identity
Medium Used: Digital Illustration
Size:

My project issue is about my identity and what makes me, me. I have explored this by creating some silhouette images of me by using photoshop, and I have layered it with the things which I enjoy and like. These are the sorts of things which show a persons identity and this is why I have chosen to do this idea within the issue.

My new issue - Identity (who am I?)

I have started on a new issue idea which is about identity and what actually makes me me. I think this will be the best one for me to do. I have taken a full picture of myself so that the whole of me is in the photo. The next thing which I did was uploaded it to iphoto and then put it on to photoshop and I got rid of the background and used the paint bucket to make me look like a silhouette.

I am then going to cover all of my body parts with lots of different objects. So I will have things that I enjoy. I will either have it as a still image with some text in it, or I will have it as a short clip where different things slide over to me every 10 seconds, but I will see how much time I have to do it first.

Global Warming - Practice Art Piece

I have done a practice of my art piece on photoshop and since I came up with this idea today I think that it is a really good start. I obviously need to get some research done on this idea but at the moment the practice piece looks quite good.

Here is my art piece:

The slogan for this would be 'Global Warming. The Earth is in Our Hands'

Statement Of Intent

Title: Identity

Medium:
The medium which I have chosen to use for this project idea is the issue for digital illustration. I will do this in photoshop.

Format:
The format which I am using for this project issue is photoshop because I want to print out four designs and make them a4 or a5 and then put them on to an a1 or a2 sized board.

Subject Matter:
My subject matter is about identity and I am going to have a few designs of an outline of me and I will fill them up with all of the things which I like and enjoy.

What processes and techniques will you employ?
I am going to create the designs in photoshop and I will either take the pictures of the objects myself or I will find some pictures which are labelled for reuse and use them. I want to mount my piece onto a1 or a2 and will try to make it look as good as possible. I am going to put a background colour for each design as well.

For my mentor

I want to start a new issue which is about planets. I cant come up with any idea surrounding this issue, so it would be very helpful if you could help me to make a decision on an idea.

Thankyou,

Jahmal

Another issue idea on planets

I have thought of another issue idea which is quite personal to me as I enjoy learning about planets, so my new idea which I have thought of is to do with planets, but I need to come up with some ideas within this issue.

I am going to email my mentor about this and I will hopefully have a mind map with a few ideas on it after he has replied to me. I think that if I have an idea around this issue then it will be a really good final piece which I will produce by the end of it.

Mentor Feedback

I showed my mentor my idea and he has gave me some advise on what I should do next which I think has helped me a lot other wise I might have been taking my issue idea in the wrong direction.

He said to me that at the moment my idea is stable, but is a little bit boring at the moment. He then said that I should do some more research about evolution of data storage, and instead of doing something literal like my idea is at the moment I could do something like compare the difference between something like a raison and a football, and this will basically show the difference between the storage of CDs and the Ipod, because you can store a lot more things on an ipod than you can on a CD, so this is showing the same thing as my first idea but in a more original way which makes it better.

I am going to take his advise on board and the next thing which I am going to do is find some research on data storage to see how much more storage an ipod can actually hold than that of a CD or lots of CD's.

Mentor

I am going to assign Nick Potamitis as my mentor because I feel that he is the person that can give me the best advice on what I need to do and improve on. I also know that he has a profession in this field as well so it should be easier enough for him to relate with what I am going to do in my idea.

Breakdown

I want to create my first idea on a canvas, where the image I will create in photoshop will be on it. I want to have it in colour but in photoshop I will make the image look like it has been water coloured. I think that this idea is good and is definitely do-able for me to do.

I also have another idea where I would get lots of CD's and put them together to make one big CD. I would probably put them together by string or something like that. The in the middle I would put one normal sized ipod. This would be fairly big, but not overly.

Synopsis

I am going to create a photoshop design of an ipod in the middle of tons of CD's and in the screen of the ipod it will say 'thousands of CD's make just one ipod' or I am going to do a real life art piece where I will create one big CD out of lots of CD's with one normal sized ipod in the middle, saying a similar thing to the first idea I explained.

My 3 ideas - evolution in data storage

Project Proposal 1 - CDs vs Ipod (photoshop)
My idea is to do with CDs and Ipods and how an Ipod is now more popular than a CD, so is there much point of CDs anymore. I have a little quote from me which I will put in the design which says "Tons of CDs make just one ipod" which basically means if you can put thousands of songs on your ipod is there much point of having CDs anymore. I will create this on A3 and the image will be an ipod surrounded by tons of CDs and the text will be on the ipod screen. My reasons for doing this idea is because I think that there are many issues between CDs and Ipods, and I want people to read and look at my work and have there own decision about the issue. I can see a few problems with my choice of idea, as people may not understand what the idea is all about and we don't have that long left so I need to get started on to make sure that the idea is clear. My idea fits the issue because I am using these elements to create a whole new object. I was influenced when I recently put some CDs onto my ipod and was just thinking about how thousands of songs from lots of CDs can be transferred onto this tiny little thing we call an ipod and theres still more space on it to do more. This is what made me want to do this as an issue and an idea.

Project Proposal 2 - New Age Disk
My idea is to get lots of CDs and spread them around to create one massive CD, then I will put a normal sized ipod in the middle, and there will be something on the screen of the ipod saying something like, "you can get all of this, in something this small". I think this will be easy enough to do all I need to do is get some blank CDs to spread around. For this idea I am wanting the audience to have there own views on this and make their own minds up on it. I was influenced on doing this idea when I thought of the first one. I was just thinking that it would be quite cool to have lots of CDs made to look like one big CD and then to have a normal sized ipod in the middle of it.

Project Proposal - Ipod Breakthrough (drawing/painting)
For this idea I am thinking of drawing two halves of a CD and breaking through these two halves will be an ipod, which shows that ipods have broken through a lot over the past few years and are more popular than CDs are, because they can do more than what a CD can do.

My Issue Rationale

The issue which I have chosen to do is about music technology and how it has changed a lot over many years. I think this issue suites me because I enjoy listening to music and I just want to know about the issues surrounding music technology. i have got three ideas within this one issue which I am going to write up on another blog post.

Basically the issue is what is now needed and not needed in music technology anymore, and I am just wondering whether we need such things as CDs anymore as we have more upgraded things like the ipod to listen to our music on.
